Chemical Marker For Diabetic Nephropathy Found

Scientists have found a way to predict the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients. The findings of the related study have been published in BMC Medicine, the open access journal. The findings indicate that cardiovascular complications in patients can be predicted reliably in patients of diabetic nephropathy using Immunoglobulin M to as a predictor.

139 patients were studied from 1984 to 2007. The patients all had type 1 diabetes. It was found that increased urine IgM excretions indicated that the patients were about thrice as likely to progress to end stage renal disease or die. This study gives a new way to deal with an illness that is rapidly becoming widespread.
